Well I’m kinda cheap…..so I use my strings for as long as I can. Then my G string became very unresponsive, so I thought it might just be time to set a few moths free from my wallet.
Then I remembered what John said about cleaning the bow hair, so I took an alcohol wipe like I use to clean my glasses, then ran it up and down both sides of the bow hair. Then I ran an old toothbrush up and the hair also, and wiped again, let it dry, rosin the bow…..and boy what a difference. Smooth, sweet, and responsive across all the strings.
Cool…now you’ve bought some time with the old strings! I’m cheap too, or close enough to poor that I can’t buy strings too often, but have a lot of instruments to keep strung up. It’s expensive, gotta make ’em last as long as we can.
