I’m working on a kickoff in C. It will basically be the whole chorus. Who plays your favorite kickoff and what do you like about it??
I never really paid alot of attention to kick offs and I don’t even do it myself. But I think I should start learning to do it.
But I do like those who do kick offs from slower songs. Those that I’ve noticed. Like “Faded Love.” Or any type of Waltz.
I was taught that the “kickoff” to a song should be the last line, or two lines, of the chorus. But with a song like Blue Moon of KY, with limited verses, doing the whole chorus seems appropriate.
We do it in a variety of keys, depending who’s singing. I learned to fiddle it in closed position “B”, which I can slide up to play C or down in Bb.
We start real slow, then jump start it pretty fast with a fiddle break.
