Carolina Balloon Rally
After a trip to Kentucky, we traveled this Sunday to the 41st Annual Carolina Balloon Rally in Statesville, NC. This fun event benefited American Cancer Society "Relay for Life" of Statesville. A percentage of proceeds also benefit community non-profits who volunteer at the festival. Tens of thousands of people attended this popular rally that featured fifty balloons. The balloons were launched twice on Sunday, and the Cockman Family performed on the main stage at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
The balloons were magnificent. My favorite was a giant pink pig with the words "When Pigs Fly" on it and the musical highlight was a Scottish band Albannach, who played "outlawed tunes on outlawed pipes" accompanied by four drummers.
On the way home I performed two songs with my friends Becca Eggers and Bill Helms at the 175th Anniversary of the Three Forks Baptist Association in Boone, NC.
